One of the most interesting projects we worked on last year was a project to help bring this wonderful Grade II* Listed Building in Eton back into use and to secure its restoration. Our clients, Tin Media, took on this project on Eton High Street after previous restoration work undertaken by an earlier owner had stalled, leaving the building exposed and at risk of further decline.
We worked with a great team including Ben Willcox at WaM Architecture and Charles P Wagner at The Built Heritage Consultancy Ltd to agree a restoration scheme with officers at RBWM and Historic England. This led to planning permission and listed building consent for the conversion to a tavern and workshops along with seven suites for holiday accommodation associated with the tavern.
As a Grade II* listed building, it is full of historic interest as you would expect. What I wasn’t expecting was the section of flooring constructed from sheep’s vertebrae! For added gothic atmosphere the room also contains the town’s former stocks and a whipping post.
