The Government has issued a revised version of the NPPF only seven months since the previous one. It addresses the issue as to which Household Projection figures should be used as part of the standard method for calculating housing need. As anticipated and telegraphed in a consultation at the end of 2018, it settles on the 2014 figures rather than the 2016 version which were being used by some to justify lower levels of housing need.
This seems to be something of a stop gap measure with the MHCLG response to the consultation stating that this is the ‘most appropriate approach in the short term’. This will be reviewed over the next 18 months.
It will be interesting to see what impact this has on local plans in the intervening period.
